  Now that I'm a realist, I certainly look differently at those so-called benefits of living forever.

  Having studied the cichlid (a fish) for eleven years, an ichthyologist quoted in Did Man Get Here by Evolution or by Creation? indicated there was still so much more to learn about this one fish. Why, what if he had forever to swim the seas and become acquainted with all the fishes and mammals of the oceans and rivers and lakes and creeks and . . . ?

  That's a keeper! Thanks, everyone, for the great replies.

  The opening post came to me today when at a local business, where the employee did mention her family's losses during the fire and the GFM account, in the amount of $10,000.

  Like you, I had no inclination whatsoever to mention the last days or God's kingdom. It was enough simply to listen with a sympathetic ear. I learned long ago not to try to fix the world's ills, or just those of one sad person.

  You sound like a very successful business person yourself, OrphanCrow. I wish I had had your sage advice earlier on for myself! Lacey is a starry-eyed little girl and, of course, will be led properly through the financial aspects:

  However, I understand your point about the attitude toward why we're doing this -- making money. I get how one's talent and so-called noble cause can be parlayed by an outwardly sincere but unscrupulous individual into his own financial gain. Personally, I have been naive in such matters and given out more than had been taken in.

  As per your good counsel, I will help steer Lacey's passion and talent properly, insofar as I am only her school teacher -- and friend, it is hoped, for life.

  My daughter's first job was to host children's themed birthday parties. She was in her element and thoroughly enjoyed it. -- Listener

  Why I get out of bed every morning.

  because someone needs my help.. as a jw -- you can relate -- i truly believed that what everyone really needed was the kingdom hope and its eventual reality.

  you know, the hope that does not lead to disappointment.

  of course, if anyone needed practical help with a task or getting through some difficulty, most of us realized that was part of being a helpful and caring friend (or family member).. at nearly seventy years of age -- no, i didn't enter the promised kingdom in my healthful and vibrant youth -- my getting out of bed isn't so bad.

  Today was a totally productive day, teaching creative writing to children.

  Two pre-teen students in particular are very bright -- we discussed their plans for the future, businesses they want to open. They showed me their floor plans, discussed services and merchandise they will offer customers, . . . The creative writing aspect of class dwelt on their needing to develop good communication skills, both written and verbal.

  I love a student who is passionate and doesn't need constant prodding.

  I'll have to consult with Lacey on the menu. She's several more years in the planning.

  Actually, haute cuisine is my description of what food ideas she's shared with me. Considering the fact that children's palates will be catered to, I imagine the fancier fare will feed the accompanying parents, they who provide transport and foot the bill.

Because of a memorable experience at a famous Pier 39 restaurant, San Francisco, California in 2009 -- the wait staff were genuinely solicitous toward her and her family -- she wants she open a business in the food industry.

  Lacey is a passionate cook and is always sharing her recipes with me. She describes in minute detail the list of ingredients, the food prep, how to determine when the oil in the skillet is just the right heat to put in the breaded chicken fingers, etc. Today she showed me plans for the restaurant layout; we went online to draw ideas from a Geneva, Switzerland restaurant. She explained how she will hire consultants to help get her fledgling business off to a good, solid start. She made it clear to me this whole endeavor is about passion for a good meal and giving her customers the very finest in haute cuisine and impeccable service. It is not about the money, she reassured me.

  Lacey is biding her time. She is eleven years old.
